Indo-American scientist develops new technology to speed up Wi-Fi network

A research team under the leadership of Indo-American engineer Harish Krishnaswamy has developed a new technology that is expected to double the radio frequency data capability.  The research team hails from Columbia University.

The novel invention, (ICs) or full-duplex radio integrated circuits can be put into use to facilitate simultaneous reception and transmission at the identical frequency in the wireless radio.

Till this point of time, this concept has been considered to be impractical.  Receivers and transmitters either function at diverse times or may function at the identical time frame but at dissimilar frequencies.

According to Harish Krishnaswamy, associate professor and also the research lead, it would be the game-changer and change the mode of swiftness of communication.

He even further added that by making use of this all new skill, networks can efficiently increase the frequency spectrum resources to two times.

Here the frequency spectrum resources we are talking about are the existing frequencies for devices such as tablets and smartphones.

In this age of communication, the present frequency spectrum limitation is one amongst the huge challenges the researchers are facing. One more problem that can be understood clearly is that the wireless networks of today’s generation can never be in a position to assist tomorrow’s data surge and needs.

As per existing standards, the frequencies support 40 varied frequency bands and with these many bands present there is actually no more additional space left behind at radio frequencies to affect future expansion.

Along with this, the greatest challenge that the 5G network, which is the much awaited and talked about next-generation communication process will face is to boost the data capability by thousand times.

So the capability to possess a receiver and transmitter that reuses the similar frequency will have the potentiality to straight away dual the data capacity of the present networks.

Krishnaswamy said that other research associations and budding organizations have shown the theoretical viability of concurrent reception and transmission at the similar frequency, but as of now nobody has been intelligent to construct minute nanoscale ICs with this ability.

He also said that their effort is the first of its kind to showcase an IC which can collect and broadcast simultaneously.

Krishnaswamy also said that this technology is essential to see new heights in duplex communications. The transmission of communication will become faster and easier with this type of frequency.

The International Solid-State Circuits Conference in San Francisco, USA had been the platform to showcase this innovation.
